The Wild Hunt

An Anglo-Saxon Saga

by Garry Kilworth

Wrongfully accused of his father’s murder, Osric is forced to flee his homeland, barely escaping with his life. He vows to return one day in vengeance and reclaim his birthright as King of the East Angles.

Determined to make good on his word, Osric makes allies and enemies along the way, finding friendship in the most unlikely of places, starting with a youthful farrier and a Thief who was a companion to Beowulf. He encounters elves and witches, giants and dwarfs, finding love and heartbreak. His adventures bring him to the attention of the Gods themselves, but will that prove to be his salvation, or his downfall?

A novel that  introduces us to a hero worth rooting for, skilfully blending historical fact with pulsating fantasy to conjure a full-blooded saga of times gone by; a Darker Age before the advent of Christianity, when giants still walked the land and a passing dragon might darken the sky...

The author, whose work has seen him win World Fantasy, BSFA, Gollancz & Sunday Times, Locus, and Charles Whiting Awards (amongst others), has a keen interest in history, having studied the Anglo-Saxon language and customs as part of his B.A. in English at King’s College, London, and been a volunteer steward at Sutton Hoo Anglo-Saxon ship burial site for over twelve years.

“An engaging blend of adventure story, remixed folklore and convincing but counterfactual history, The Wild Hunt cements Kilworth’s reputation as a storyteller with a flair for melding strangeness, erudition and entertainment.” – ParSec

“The narrative voice Kilworth uses… lends the novel a certain grandeur. One can appreciate the history and mythology of the Anglo Saxons, blended with a classic fantasy as old as time. This enjoyable mythic tale resembles a lost ancient text in its construction and execution.” – Aurealis

“Nothing in this novel plays as I expected… It is surprisingly political, often so funny that I snorted, and told with an interest that never flagged… I finished this one (for the first time)  as dawn poked its fingers through the slats in my blinds. But I’ll be back.” – Anna Tambour
