POLESTARS 3
A series of single author collections by outstanding writers. The Polestar, or North Star, is defined as the brightest star in Ursa Minor; since every author chosen for this series is a star in their own right, Polestars provides the ideal banner under which to unite such exceptional works.
We are delighted to present the debut collection from Emma Coleman. Emma's fiction is steeped in local colour and rooted deep in her native Northamptonshire, imbuing these settings with shades and contours drawn from her love of nature, her passion for literature, and her own keen eye for detail. Her fiction is atmospheric, mesmeric, and frequently disturbing.
“Want to be thoroughly creeped out? This is the book for you! Highly recommended.” – LibraryThing reviewer
“This is a deeply affecting and entertaining collection – very moreish... Emma Coleman is a powerful mythmaker, a writer to watch.” – ParSec

Excerpt from "Five Small Boys": There is a green corner, lodged between centuries-old stonework. So green, the triangular plot is shaded by an old pear tree and its lime-green leaves; as the wind blows, the sunlight spots on mosses and dock, and the scent of damp earth catches on the breeze.
Apple-green, mint-glitter, pea-shoots and elf’s-hat, the mossy-drench twinkle… so green. The dew is constant. The grass forever agleam. Soak, drip.
Nobody visits that corner any more, and no one has spoken of it for a long time. But it is beautiful, like an emerald grotto, tucked up against the stone walls of the farmhouse, and hidden amongst the meadows.
The old farm is abandoned; stonework crumbles and the beams are dry and peppered with woodworm. The broken windows of slanted glass are dirty with droppings and dust. Nobody visits.
Except for five small boys, who are about to arrive on their bikes. They’re coming, laughing and jostling, crashing through tall grasses and nettles.
“This is a collection of creepy stories spanning a range of time periods but with a strong sense of place, namely rural Northamptonshire… the best of the bunch leave the reader wondering what just happened.” – BSFA reviews
“If you like contemporary horror and the grim kind of fairytales, The Glasshouse is a highly-recommended read with strong stories that will stay with you long after the reading.” – Aurealis
“A collection of rural British grimdark stories, mainly set in the Midlands… All were well written. Recommended, but be warned some of the stories are a bit on the gory side.” – LibraryThing reviewer
