| Emma Johanna Puranen is a modern-day polymath, studying for her PhD in exoplanets and science fiction. She lives in Scotland, where in addition to her research she is a prolific writer. ‘A Spark in a Flask’ first appeared in Around Distant Suns, an anthology created through an interdisciplinary science/creative writing project Emma organised at the St Andrews Centre for Exoplanet Science. Around Distant Suns has been reviewed in the journal Nature Astronomy. Emma also writes the audio drama Roguemaker, available wherever you get your podcasts. In her free time, she runs, draws, and LARPs.
