Adrian Tchaikovsky is a prolific writer and highly respected figure in contemporary speculative fiction, with a career spanning science fiction, fantasy, and many spaces between. Born in 1972, he studied zoology and psychology, academic disciplines that continue to inform the biological, ecological, and cognitive questions explored throughout his fiction.
A multiple award winner, Adrian first gained attention for his epic fantasy, before establishing himself as a major figure in science fiction. Notable for its imaginative ambition and range — encompassing alien intelligence, evolutionary theory, social systems, and radically different perspectives on what it means to be conscious or alive — his fascination with all things insect and arachnid is often evident in his writing.
Adrian Tchaikovsky’s work with NewCon Press includes 'Feast and Famine' (his first ever collection), and the four book Tales of the Apt series, starting with 'Spoils of War' (2016), a companion series to the best-selling Shadows of the Apt, gathering together short stories from disparate places and supplementing them with a wealth of new tales written especially for the series, to provide a different perspective, unfolding alongside the familiar one.
Adrian's short stories have also featured in a number of NewCon Press anthologies, including 'Paradox', '2001: An Odyssey in Words', 'Now We Are Ten' (our 10th anniversary celebration) and 'The Iron Code'
