Mark Lawrence is the author of nineteen novels, with the latest, Daughter of Crows, released in 2026, and is a two-times winner of the David Gemmell Legend Award. Born in Illinois to British parents, after gaining a PhD in mathematics at Imperial College London, he worked on a variety of research projects in the US including the ‘Star Wars’ missile defence programme. He never had ambitions to be a writer, so was surprised when his first trilogy, The Broken Empire, gained international acclaim. The Red Queen’s War trilogy that followed is set in the same milieu, while his next two trilogies, The Book of the Ancestor and the Book of the Ice, are set in a different world. Mark is married, with four children, and now lives in Bristol, UK
